The Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, is an island country consisting of a group of atolls stretching south of India's Lakshadweep islands between Minicoy Island and the Chagos Archipelago, and about seven hundred kilometres (435 mi) south-west of Sri Lanka in the Laccadive Sea of Indian Ocean. The twenty-six atolls of Maldives encompass a territory featuring 1,192 islets, of which two hundred islands are inhabited.
The original inhabitants were Buddhist, probably since Ashoka's period,in the 3rd century BC. Islam was introduced in 1153. The Maldives then came under the influence of the Portuguese (1558) and the Dutch (1654) seaborne empires. In 1887 it became a British protectorate. In 1965, the Maldives obtained independence from Britain (originally under the name "Maldive Islands"), and in 1968 the Sultanate was replaced by a Republic.
The Maldives is the smallest Asian country in terms of both population and area; it is the smallest predominantly Muslim nation in the world. With an average ground level of 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, it is also the country with the lowest highest point in the world, at 2.3 metres (7 ft 7 in).

Diving Seasons in the Maldives - The best Time for Diving in the Maldives
* January to April are considered the best months for diving.
* May and June can have unstable weather, and odd cloudy days are possible until September.
* October and November tend to have clearer weather, but visibility can be slightly reduced because of abundant plankton in the water that attracts the big fishes, good time for whale sharks.
* December can have windy weather and rain.
Maldives diving Courses
If you have never been diving before, or want to continue your diving education then why not take a diving course, our PADI certified instructors can offer you scuba instruction from PADI’s Discover diving course, through to the Divemaster program.

Where is the pick up for the boat?
In the Maldives the default meeting point for all hotels and liveaboards is the airport so whether you are arriving from an international flight or transfering from another resort you will arrive and depart from the airport which is 100 metres from the port where the dhoni (boat) will transfer you to your liveaboard.
Will I be met when I arrive?
You will be met off your flight or resort transfer as per your details you provide to us at the time of booking your trip and returned to the airport at the end of your liveaboard.
Can I buy a local phone card?
phone cards are available for sale at the airport. They are gprs enabled so you can pick your email on your phone nearly anywhere on the trip at very reasonable rates. Please make sure you tell you guest rep that you want one before you leave the airport.
What time will we arrive at the boat?
The boat stays in Male for the first day so dependant on what time you land and we transfer you to the boat |
